Chrysler LLC will celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, Jan. 19. The company’s Civic and Community Relations organization is providing employees an opportunity to commemorate King’s birthday by volunteering at a number of community service projects to be conducted throughout that week at a number of nonprofit agencies in southeast Michigan.
Company officials would like to transform the federal holiday honoring King into a week of service grounded in his teaching of nonviolence and social justice. The aim is to make the holiday a time when people of all ages and backgrounds come together to improve lives, bridge social barriers and move the nation closer to the “beloved community” that King envisioned.
The service projects vary over a range of activities during the week of Jan. 19. They include story reading to low-income children, arts and craft projects, school beautification, as well as packing donated goods that will be given to local families in need.
